ABOUT JF PERSEVERANDA PHOTOGRAPHY

"Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything."

Hello!  Welcome to my blog.  The quote above is by Aaron Siskind, a renowned photographer.  I hope you will allow me to capture a few of the special moments in your life.

My main site is at www.jfperseveranda.com, where I host private online galleries and where you can purchase full resolution photos.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

  • I was born in the Philippines and grew up in Marikina.  I'm fluent in tagalog.
  • I started playing chess at 5 years old and played in one tournament.
  • From 4th-6th grade, I lived one mile away from Wrigley Field in Chicago. Go Cubs!
  • Living in the Bay Area since '79, I attended Springstowne Jr. High School & Hogan Senior High School in Vallejo.  Go Niners, SF Giants, Athletics & Warriors!
  • I took French from 7th thru 12th grade, plus a couple of semesters in college.  Je parle français, mais "I'm very rusty."
  • Hogan High School was the smallest in the Monticello Empire League, but my varsity tennis team won back-to-back league titles my junior & senior years.  Go Spartans!
  • I got my first SLR camera, a Minolta, in my senior year of high school, and I've been shooting ever since.
  • I attended University of California at Davis for Aeronautical Engineering.  I spent a lot of time in the Rec Hall trying to dunk like MJ.  I had hops, but I could only get my second knuckle above the rim.  Too bad Steph Curry hadn't yet revolutionized the 3-point shot back in my hoop days.
  • I moved back to Chicago on my own before Michael Jordan won his first 'ship. Go Bulls!
  • In the early 90's, I lived in SF, first in Twin Peaks area, then SoMa, then at the Fillmore Center near Japantown.  I moved to Fremont in the mid-90's.
  • I was at Grant Park in Chicago when Michael Jordan and the Bulls hoisted their first championship trophy.
  • I've been a Bruce Lee fan since watching "Enter The Dragon" at the movies with my dad.  I once entered a judo tournament with a torn knee.  I lost all my matches, but I came out feeling like Superman.
  • I always lugged a camera on dates, especially the first date, in case she was "the one."
  • After getting married, I settled back down in Vtown.  My two eldest kids graduated from Benicia High School.   My youngest is still a Benicia Panther.
  • I got my first digital camera in 1999, an Olympus C3000Z.
  • I got my first DSLR, an Olympus, in 2005.
  • My first Nikon DSLR camera got "lost" while I was on vacation in the Philippines in 2013.
  • My first Sony Alpha camera was the Sony A3000.  I then got a Sony A6000.
  • I shot with another Nikon DSLR until an "accident" in Los Angeles (zoom lens) and San Francisco (camera body).
  • I decided to go mirrorless and got the Sony A7III in 2019.
  • Based in Vallejo / Benicia, I can easily shoot your event in the SF Bay Area / Northern California.
  • "Have camera, will travel."
